Ira Hamilton Hayes was born on the 12th of January 1923 on the River Gila Ind. Reservation in Sacaton in the state of Arizona. During his early years he got enrolled with the Gila River Ind. Society. He was a Native American who experienced the fight of Iwo Jima during the Second World War. Hayes lived for thirty two glorious years and died on the 24th of January 1955.
Hayes joined the Marine Corp. Reserves in San Diego on the 24th of August 1942. He got his training from the USMC (United States Marine Co.). After completing his training, he joined the MCB (Marine Corp. Base) to become a paratrooper. During his training he had an alias Chief Falling Cloud.
On the 2nd of December 1942, he joined the third parachute regiment in camp Elliot in the state of California and with the regiment he started journey towards New Caledonia on the 14th of March 1943. Then for additional training Hayes went to Hawaii in the September of 1944.
Hayes got involved in the Battle of Iwo Jima on the 19th of Feb 1945. He was with the group of marines that invaded the island. On the 23rd of Feb 1945, the faction of marines took control of Mount Saribachi in just a small period of five days. The brave marines who lifted the American flag on the mountain were Mike Strank, Rene Gagnon, Franklin Sousley, J. Bradley and Harlon Block. The flag rising was hugely commemorated and Ira Hamilton Hayes became the Hero of the Nation.
